friday the 13th.

Oh hello blog world how are you? Here's a dusty old post for you...

This was my friday the 13th:

"Today Teddy and I went on a jaunt to Target. I love being within walking distance of the entire universe. We bounced along. Teddy gripped his raccoonie tightly. It's his favorite lovie. Then it started to rain. Then it started to pour. I pulled out our trusty umbrella. It did the updraft thing like in Mary Poppins when the bad nannies get swept away. I strong armed the wind and won. We bought pacies and bottles and other baby accoutrements. We walked to the bank and deposited checks. We went home.

While Teddy was sleeping I did some of my Iron Yoga video. While Teddy was awake we sang Baby Beluga. I tried to distract him from the pain of the teeth which are earnestly and slowly putting pressure on his pink gums. I showed him all of the choreography to The Itsy Bitsy Spider. I propped him on his side and he smacked his play gym toys with incredible tenacity. (He's been staring at them for months.)

Today was an absurdly normal day and there is something really nice about that."

A few weeks ago Phil and I read an article about Mr. Rogers for family home evening. I was especially touched by Mr. Fred Rogers own one-line philosophy: "Deep and simple is far more essential than shallow and complex." I love a thrilling event or an emotionally "big" experience but there is a very special place for simple things. A simple day like my friday the 13th reminds me of that. Little smiles and triumphs. That's the everyday stuff I treasure.

So if all you do today is change from your sport coat into your playtime sweater and sneakers and go around doing nice and usual things that's OK. In fact that's great.

I like this post. It's kinda what Celia's blog was all about -- as moms we do the same thing a lot of the time, but its the important same old things.
