here are some trip highlights...
Winning. Phil and I both hold tight to an inner competitive streak as well as a love for the stage (or for the audience? not sure which). When we heard there was a couples competition in the hotel's evening show we raised our hands and were plucked from the crowd to be the American competitors. We had to dance together, pop balloons as a team (a la family double dare), and I had to guess blind folded which of the three gents' legs belonged to my new hub. I guessed right because he doesn't sweat and everyone else was doing just that under the hot stage lights. We won. YES indeed. we. won. Our prize you ask? Visors, fanny packs, and senor frog Tshirts...we were living quite large.
Riding the bus. Phil served his mission in Mxco City and I just abhor the idea of anyone thinking I can't go local, get my hands dirty, be an unprincess (as much as a love princess-i-ly things) so when traveling we decided to do it right and take the bus. Bus transportation was my main mode for four years of college in the Gritzburgh and believe me there is always a colorful mix of characters in the crayon box that is public transportation. Such is equally true across the border. We were asked if we'd like to buy binoculars from a crazy eyed individual to our left while simultaneously the guy to our right began to roll cigarettes from the grande pile of marijuana on his lap. I felt well conditioned for such bus mayhem and I think PG was well impressed. We never felt in danger and we never made any bus purchases either! We had some great conversations while we fanned ourselves and caught our balance on bumpy roads. The journey ended up equal in joy to the destination.
MJ. Michael Jackson made his earthly exit just days before our wedding. We spent a lot of time chatting about his demise, talent, face, the usual. We were excited to see his name on the billboard for yet another evening show. We thought it would probably be campy and quickly put together in the wake of MJ's death... NO siryyy bob it was not! It was fantastic. The Jackson impersonator lived, breathed, and pelvic thrusted Michael. I think he sweat Michael. Michael was his life's work. We were part laughing part gasping in shock. He danced and pranced in black loafers like the pop king himself (or at least leaps and bounds above what one would expect for a resort show). Applause to him.
So to avoid long windedness (and barfy mushiness) I'll leave you with those three gems and now.... Roll the pictures!! (I hope you all know I actually imagine a little cinema man from the 40's rolling my pictures... yes. vivid imagination I know.)
